Our DIY/Thrifted Nursery Nook

Baby Serrano will be here soon. I’ve been feeling all kinds of gross-looking (insomnia eyes, acne, an extra 40 pounds and swollen EVERYTHING) for the past couple of months, so style blogging and dressing myself in general has been all but a distant memory for me. So instead, I’ve taken that energy and applied it to Baby Serrano’s nursery nook (he’ll be rooming with us for the first couple of months). I have a few tutorials that I pieced together to make the crib bedding which I’ll link to later (when I find them). Every item besides the rug and throw pillow was either handmade, recycled or thrifted.
Crib: $0 (freecycle.org)
Bedding (sewn by me): $70 (fabric, lining, notions)
Painting: $15 (Angel Ministries Thrift Store)
Letter “P”: $2.50 (Goodwill Select)
Chair & Ottoman: $30 (Salvation Army)
Chevron Canvas: $0 (used leftover fabric from bedding and a canvas I found in the garage….ok, the trash)
Dresser: $8 (updated cheap dresser we had since college, bought primer & knobs, used paint we had on hand)
Side Table: $5 (estate sale, used previously purchased paint and stain to update)
Owls: $0 (mother-in-law made these for baby shower decorations)
—————-
Total: $130.50

I’m pretty happy with the way everything turned out and getting the Mr.’s nod of approval was an added bonus considering how much he dislikes my affinity for decorating our home with “trash furniture”. The trick is to just hide it until I’ve transformed it. Smooth.

That’s beautiful Larami! I love how they aren’t traditional boy colors. I think you could make a living as an upcycling decorator.ReplyCancel

    • Your ‘own’ creative space – I am alosmt too jealous to comment… alosmt, but not quite! How exciting! Can’t wait to see the dresser painted white. I have a few stained wooden pieces of furniture (not very special) that I’m thinking of painting white… so I will be checking back to see how you get on! Thanks for the lovely comment this morning, by the way, and do come again!ReplyCancel
